Reimagining

Academic
Success

We promote confidence in our children

Homework Central strives to create educational equity for disadvantaged elementary school students who aren’t receiving the support they need. Through lack of resources, and poor access to technology or academic assistance, too many children start to fall behind, creating an ever-widening academic gap between them and their peers.

Our mission

Homework Central empowers students facing structural inequities through academic assistance, family engagement, and community resources.

Our approach

In partnership with local schools, HWC provides after-school tutoring, homework assistance, and family support free of charge. We provide encouragement—and the opportunities students need to regain confidence and achieve academic success.

What is academic success?

More than just getting good grades, academic success encompasses the many things that allow a child to learn in the classroom—completing homework on time, being engaged, developing skills, and growing both socially and emotionally. HWC works to create an environment where students can achieve these things and be rewarded for their success.

After-school tutoring and literacy

Homework Central operates at nine sites that are staffed by caring volunteers, high school students and a Site Coordinator. The students visit their site five days a week for individualized and group tutoring in English, reading and mathematics. They participate in various enrichment activities that include science, art, and humanities/culture. There is a literacy program for the youngest learners in second and third grades.

Family support

Our popular Family Night events are held four times per year for over 100 students, their siblings and parents, and volunteers. Each event includes a healthy dinner, enrichment projects, and bilingual presentations on community resources and groups.
