Celebrations at Homework Central Sites

Every site had an exciting end to the 2013 year. At the Martin Luther King Center, students had a pizza Christmas party on December 18th and a cookie decorating event the following day. Each child also received a gift card to Target stores. Thank you Charles and Earline Douglas and Holly Miner for making these events possible.

Twelve children from the Unitarian Universalist site and their chaperones were treated to see Bay Pointe's performance of The Nutcracker. Each child had a favorite part and enjoyed the trip. Thank you Sheila, a volunteer tutor, for making this possible. In addition to the ballet, Homework Central children from the UU site were "adopted" by the UU congregation of San Mateo and each child was given a personalized gift. A festive celebration was held as well.

At Sunnybrae Elementary School, children attended a Christmas party where everyone was given a gift. This site also played games and had a Multiplication Bee with prizes for students.

On December 16th and 18th, Park Elementary School site students enjoyed surprise gifts including a box of crayons, a box of colored pencils, a doodle pad, and a pocket-sized travel notebook. Thank you Sandra and the Hardy family for these presents. A little celebration was held on the final day before winter break.

Homework Central launches new web site

Homework Central launched a new website today. We designed this site to help promote the critical role that Homework Central plays in supporting vulnerable elementary school children in San Mateo. We hope we have made it easy for you to join us as a volunteer, whether you want to tutor at one of our homework sites or volunteer in another capacity. We also hope you find it easy to support Homework Central with your monetary donations.

We would appreciate getting your feedback about our new website. Any and all suggestions are welcome. Feel free to contact Justin Fok, a member of the Homework Central board with your ideas. HWC Announces $35,000 Donation Matching Grant Program for Fall Fundraiser

Homework Central is proud to announce that it has acquired a total of $35,000 in donation matching grants for the 2013 Fall Fund Raising Campaign! An extremely generous group of donors has committed to matching, dollar for dollar, all first-time donors, any donors who have increased their donations from last year, and any donors who have not given in the last two years.

Thank you to all of our champion donors who have pledged for the donation-matching grant. Your commitment and passion to help the most vulnerable students of San Mateo is an inspiration to all of us.
